Synopsis

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown comes a gripping story of family ties and forbidden attraction.
Crawford Hunt wants his daughter back. Following the death of his wife four years ago, Crawford, a Texas Ranger, fell into a downward spiral that left him relegated to deskwork and with his five-year-old daughter Georgia in the custody of her grandparents. But Crawford has cleaned up his act, met all the court imposed requirements, and now the fate of his family lies with Judge Holly Spencer.
Holly, ambitious and confident, temporarily occupies the bench of her recently deceased mentor. With an election upcoming, she must prove herself worthy of making her judgeship permanent. Every decision is high-stakes. Despite Crawford’s obvious love for his child and his commitment to being an ideal parent, Holly is wary of his checkered past. Her opinion of him is radically changed when a masked gunman barges into the courtroom during the custody hearing. Crawford reacts instinctually, saving Holly from a bullet.
But his heroism soon takes on the taint of recklessness. The cloud over him grows even darker after he uncovers a horrifying truth about the courtroom gunman and realizes that the unknown person behind the shooting remains at large . . .and a threat.
Catching the real culprit becomes a personal fight for Crawford. But pursuing the killer in his customary diehard fashion will jeopardize his chances of gaining custody of his daughter, and further compromise Judge Holly Spencer, who needs protection not only from an assassin, but from Crawford himself and the forbidden attraction between them.
FRICTION will keep you on the edge of your seat with breathtaking plot twists and the unforgettable characters that make Sandra Brown one of the world’s best-loved authors. It is an extraordinary novel about the powerful ties that bind us to the ones we love and the secrets we keep to protect them.

Review

Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree

Not only am I reviewing an audiobook for the first time but I am also reviewing a book by Sandra Brown. Until this, I’d only ever heard of her and I’m so glad I decided to dive in. Her newest book, Friction, was released on August 18, 2015. I’ve listened to the audiobook and I am now hooked. Friction is a fast paced suspense novel about a Texas Ranger and a Judge and the suspenseful road they travel over a matter of days. I listen to audiobooks at two times the normal speed and devoured this book in less than a day.

At the start of this book, Texas Ranger Crawford Hunt is petitioning to get custody of his five-year-old daughter and Judge Holly Spencer is presiding over the case. Things quickly escalate when a gunman bursts into the courtroom and opens fire. This whole story will keep you on the edge of your seat. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, something else would pop up or be revealed things would go for another twist. While all this is going on, there’s an intense attraction between Crawford and Holly which only complicates things.

Crawford and Holly meet under not so great circumstances and get thrown together. Not only is there a lot of sexual tension, but the stakes are high when they continue to be in danger and things surrounding them only get more confusing, stressful, tension filled. These two definitely complement each other and I loved how something great between them could develop in the midst of so much crazy.

The narrator was awesome. He had the perfect voice for Crawford and just lent to the whole rugged law man image that he portrayed. He did a great job switching between Crawford and Holly and only enhanced the story. It was very easy to get lost in the story and not pay attention to my surroundings. Not only do I recommend this book, but I also recommend the audiobook. I will definitely be looking into reading her other books. 5 out of 5 palm trees!!

Sandra Brown Book SigningTonight (August 25, 2015) I got to do something new and exciting. For the first time in my whole life of reading and 2 years of blogging, I got to meet an author. And not just any author but an extremely well known author. We don’t get a lot of book signings from well-known authors in my area of the country so this was a big deal. Now, I didn’t really know what to expect but I was very excited and even drug my sister along with me.

The moment Sandra Brown stepped up on stage to speak with all of us, she was warm and funny. The whole audience (myself included) was engaged. Now I grew up with my mom reading her Romance books but I did get the opportunity to listen to her newest Suspense novel, Friction, and I was instantly impressed (see review below). Between my impression of her as a person, her fascinating insight into her writing process, and my sincere appreciation of Friction, Sandra Brown has just made another fan.

The whole experience left me excited and so glad I got to be a part of the event. My sister and I found ourselves animatedly discussing her Q&A the whole way home. Sandra Brown was such a nice and welcoming person and I loved how she had no problem answering questions about her books and writing process. She even told us about her disastrous first book signing. With 67* best sellers (and I’m crossing my fingers that Friction will be 68) she is not only successful but has mastered the ability to put those twists into her books that really make a Suspense novel. This was one experience I won’t ever forget.

*I’m pretty sure this is the number she gave the audience during the Q&A.
