Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree  Island with a palm tree

I absolutely loved Easy and Breakable so it was a no brainer when deciding if I wanted to review Sweet.  Even though this is a standalone, the two main characters are from Lucas’ past so you technically know them a little bit if you’ve read Breakable. Tammara Webber is a fantastic writer and she has definitely continued that theme with this book. The story is not only “sweet” but also one about growing up and getting to know your true self. The characters were wonderful and very relatable. I really enjoyed this story.

Boyce and Pearl have known each other since they were little kids. When Boyce saves Pearl from drowning, they form a bond for life. No matter what is going on in their lives, they know each other’s true self and give each other the support and protection they both need. Boyce had a crappy childhood. With mother who abandoned her family, and a drunk father, he only had his brother and then Pearl. Sadly, he loses his brother in the war in Afghanistan. All of this really pulled at my heart but it’s obvious that Boyce is strong and better than his mom or dad. He’s tough on the outside but Pearl knows who he really is. Pearl had a much different upbringing. She’s pressured by her mom to go to medical school and she’s fine with that until she’s ready to go and then realizes that’s not who she is and chooses a different path. I loved how she chose to do what was best for her and Boyce is totally supportive of her decisions. He knows her and believes in her. These two go through a lot but they always have each other. Even when they don’t see each other for 4 years, it’s still there. I absolutely loved these two people.

The story line flowed really well in this book. Sometimes I’m leery of flashbacks because they often either mess with the continuity of a book and/or they don’t seem relevant and I get bored. This was not the case with this book. I found it really helpful to see how their story developed over the years. It really enhanced what I perceived of their relationship in the present. I don’t think  it would be possible to get as in depth of an understanding without that back story. All in all, the story was romantic but also had a lot of self growth which is really what New Adult books are about. Awesome story and I hope there’s more in the series. 5 out of 5 palm trees!

AuthorBio

IMG_1305New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of EASY and BREAKABLE (Contours of the Heart series – NA), as well BETWEEN THE LINES, WHERE YOU ARE, GOOD FOR YOU and HERE WITHOUT YOU (Between the Lines series – YA/NA).

I’m a hopeful romantic who adores novels with happy endings, because there are enough sad endings in real life. Before writing full-time, I was an undergraduate academic advisor, economics tutor, planetarium office manager, radiology call center rep, and the palest person to ever work at a tanning salon. I married my high school sweetheart, and I’m Mom to three adult kids and four very immature cats.
